- Support ChI
As you know, ChI was welcomed by the Berkeley Society of Friends into their Meeting House on Vine Street where we have held our Interfaith Studies and Spiritual Direction Certificate Program classes since October 2014. Thank you to ChI Community member, Martha O’Hehir, for making that introduction. The Meeting Room and the Community Room have served as our classroom and the adjoining library, dining room and parlor our social and gathering space. This facility provides a hospitable venue for filling our classroom needs Monday through Saturday. On Sundays, we’ve been welcomed by Starr King School for the Ministry into their Fireside Room, which is lovely and appropriate. We feel that the combination of the Friends’ Meeting House and Starr King will satisfy our classroom needs for the now.
In terms of office space, we are now headquartered at Shattuck Commons, 1400 Shattuck Ave., Suite 14 (at Rose Street) in Berkeley. Our office resides very close to our classroom space, allowing us to be as efficient as possible, especially during modules. Our new space not only houses our growing staff but also provides a more stable foundation for our team and community. Community events and meetings are also held here. Community members wishing to rent this space in the evenings or weekends should contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
Our office also includes signage on busy Shattuck Avenue (thanks to a donation from Martha O'Hehir) which allows us to have visibility and raise awareness for ChI in the community and possibly encourage new students, donors and volunteers to join us.
The challenge is that Berkeley is not an inexpensive place to rent space. Our fundraising campaign to help underwrite the costs of new office and classroom space for ChI generated about $45,000. Thanks to the donors who have contributed, these funds have been underwriting the cost of classroom space since October of 2014. The balance was used for our move, installation of phones, building out our space with some tenant improvements, purchasing furniture and office equipment, signage, and more. We are grateful.
Here’s where we need your help.
Currently, donors are contributing $445 a month in recurring gifts to help underwrite ChI’s facilities. These donations cover less than half of our total classroom expenses each month. After adding the cost of office space, we require $4,000 per month for both our classroom and office. What we need are additional donors – lots of them – to come forward and commit to making a monthly gift to ChI to help us underwrite these critically important costs.
Please consider your monthly budget and what amount you are able to contribute to the future of ChI. Your donations will ensure our ability to gain stability and strengthen the foundation that holds our seminary and spiritual community. Please give at whatever level you’re able, but please give so that we can better fund this important new direction for ChI and our mission to provide spiritual care to heal and transform the world.
Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
