“Allyship & Compassion: Supporting the LGBTQ+ Community in a Time of Renewed Oppression”
This will be a panel discussion with Rev. Rivka Gevurtz, Rev. Rika Casseres, Lia Nagase, Rev. Jess Shine, and friends. Read more about our panelists here.
As chaplains and spiritual directors, we attend to the needs of marginalized communities. Right now in the US, there are over 520 pieces of legislation in 47 states trying to roll back LGBTQ+ rights; particularly those of trans youth, their families, teachers, and doctors. In this conversation, we will look at the current climate and discuss ways for clergy and lay folk can support the LGBTQ+ community and stand in solidarity with those we serve. This online event will feature a panel discussion of chaplains and future chaplains who have lived experience as part of the LGBTQ+ community &/or parent of a trans youth, followed by a Q&A with attendees.
Parliament of the World’s Religions Pre-Event and co-Sponsored by Shelter For The Spirit
