The Spiritual Direction (SD) program is designed for those who feel called to private practice
in personal, one-on-one spiritual direction, and who anticipate working with clients from a
variety of faith traditions. The program includes 3 Chaplaincy Program courses, in addition to

6 more classroom days within a cohort of other spiritual direction students. Upon successful
completion of the program, participants are qualified to provide spiritual direction in the
context of their choosing. Please read more about the philosophy and pedagogical approach
to this program on the ChI website.
Application to the SD program is open to all, whether you are a current student, an alum or
never yet enrolled at ChI.
For current Chaplaincy Program students, Spiritual Direction can be used to fulfill required
elective days, a track called the Dual Certificate option. In this option, 11 elective days are
used for the SD classes. Dual Certificate students are also required to attend 7 – 8 additional
days of other electives. There is subsequently added tuition for the Dual Certificate due to the
increased course requirements.
For students who have already completed all the chaplaincy course requirements, enrollment
in the SD program is available for a modified fee, with attendance in some classes waived.
Please ask Admissions for current fees.
