Seminary Dean Rev. Lauren Van Ham, M.A.
Seminary Dean Rev. Lauren Van Ham, M.A., was ordained with the very first cohort of CHI ordinands in 1999, and completed the Interfaith Spiritual Direction Certificate Program in 2006. Before joining the CHI staff in 2010, Lauren served for 8 years as a staff chaplain at St. Mary’s Medical Center in San Francisco. From there she moved to a corporate environment, where she custom-designed employee programs for multi-national companies committed to sustainability and culture change. As part of her evolving call and commitment to “eco-chaplaincy”, Lauren served as Executive Director for Green Sangha (a non-profit dedicated to spiritually-engaged environmental activism) from 2004-2006 and has chaired Fair Trade Berkeley, a group whose dedication helped make Berkeley the 19th Fair Trade Town in the U.S. Lauren holds degrees from Carnegie Mellon University and Naropa University.
Global Spiritual Traditions Part 1
Global Spiritual Traditions and ChI Culture & Foundations 1 is the first of a 2-part series. These courses introduce students to ChI’s core philosophy and learning approach as well as to World Religions and/or spiritual paths that have their origins in earth-centered, indigenous practice (Africa, Pagan, First Nation and other indigenous worldviews), or ancient Eastern philosophy and belief systems (Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism). While engaging with the world’s knowledge, beliefs, traditions, scriptures, and practices, the curriculum incorporates lecture, dyad shares, various art projects, and site visits to appeal to our many ways of integrating and practicing new learning.
* This 5-day classroom course is required for all Interfaith Chaplaincy students but also open to others. There is additional online study required for completion of this course.

Global Spiritual Traditions Part 2
Global Spiritual Traditions and ChI Culture & Foundations 2 is the second of a 2-part series but open for stand-alone enrollment. This course introduces students to ChI’s core philosophy and learning approach as well as to World Religions and/or spiritual paths that have their origins in the Abrahamic traditions (Judaism, Islam, Christianity). While engaging with the world’s knowledge, beliefs, traditions, scriptures, and practices, the curriculum incorporates lecture, dyad shares, various art projects, and site visits to appeal to our many ways of integrating and practicing new learning
* This 5-day classroom course is required for all Interfaith Chaplaincy students but also open to others. There is additional online study required for completion of this course.
