The Chaplaincy Institute (ChI ) and Starr King School for the Ministry (SKSM) are formally affiliated through our Joint Program for Interfaith Chaplaincy. This program integrates the ChI Certificate of Interfaith Studies with Starr King’s accredited master’s degree programs (Master of Divinity or Master of Arts in Social Change), providing a pathway for students to meet both the educational and ecclesiastical requirements for certification as a professional chaplain.
The first gathering of the United Religions Initiative (URI), held in the summer of 1999, was attended by Chaplaincy Institute seminarians and faculty. Since that time, ChI and URI have been interfaith allies supporting projects in the Bay Area and beyond. Currently ChI’s “Lunar Howl” satellite group is one of over 1,000 URI Cooperation Circles – interfaith grassroots groups that carry out URI’s mission. “URI is a global grassroots interfaith network that cultivates peace and justice by engaging people to bridge religious and cultural differences and work together for the good of their communities and the world.”
