Why Equity Pricing?
Our equity-pricing tuition model recognizes that financial resources are not evenly distributed. By selecting a tuition level that reflects your financial situation, you help sustain ChI’s mission while ensuring that we can continue to provide transformative education, fairly compensate faculty and staff, and develop new offerings that meet the evolving needs of spiritual care professionals. This model is rooted in community responsibility and shared investment, reflecting our commitment to sustainability by allowing ChI to remain financially stable, ethically aligned with our values, and responsive to the needs of students and faculty. Your investment in ChI strengthens our community and advances the work of spiritual care and interfaith ministry.
How it Works?
We offer four tuition tiers, which recognize that financial resources are not, and should not be, the only factor determining the possibility of engaging in ChI’s chaplaincy program:
Tier 1
- I am comfortable and able to meet all of my basic needs
- I may have some debt but it doesn’t prohibit me from attaining my basic needs
- I own my own home or property or rent
- I own or lease a car
- I am employed or do not need to work to meet my basic needs
- I have regular access to health care
- I have access to financial savings
- I have an expendable income
- I can always buy new items
- I can afford an annual vacation or to take time off
Tier 2
- I may stress about meeting my basic needs but still regularly achieve them
- I may have some debt but it does not prohibit me from attaining my basic needs
- I own a home or rent
- I own or lease a car
- I am employed or self-employed
- I have access to health care
- I might have access to financial savings
- I have some expendable income
- I am able to buy some new items and I thrift others
- I can take a vacation annually or every few years without financial burden
Tier 3
I frequently stress about meeting basic needs and don’t always achieve them
I have some debt and sometimes it prohibits me from meeting my basic needs
I am employed or self-employed but work part-time
I have limited financial savings
I have limited expendable income
I have a mortgage to pay
I have to actively save in order to take a vacation
I own a car but struggle to cover gas and insurance
Tier 4
The Chaplaincy Institute offers Vets a 25% reduction on tuition for all programs

Dual Program Enrollment (Chaplaincy + Additional Program)
Chaplaincy Program + Spiritual Direction Program OR Chaplaincy Program + Sacred Justice Ministry
| Additional Tuition for Second Program. Students enrolled in the Chaplaincy Program may add either the Spiritual Direction Program or the Sacred Justice Ministry Program for the reduced tuition listed at right. Transfer of Ordination/Dual Ministerial Standing Program Fees

Other Costs
| Onsite Learning Retreat: Required for Ordination, strongly encouraged for those receiving Chaplaincy Program certificate without Ordination. | $1,800-$1,900 paid directly to the provider by the student |
| Vocational Assessment | $1,000-$1,300 (includes lodging and meals), does not include travel |
| Clinical Pastoral Education, Practicum | Paid directly to facility or mentor |
| Books, personal spiritual direction sessions throughout your program | $1,000 estimated minimum |
| Ordination Retreat | $500 estimate (includes lodging and meals) |
